Vol. 274 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cootehill Comprehensive School.

67.

asked the Minister for Education when the new extension to St. Aidan's Comprehensive School, Cootehill, County Cavan, will be finished; and when building will start to cater for a projected 648 students by 1978.

Mr. R. Burke

It is expected that work on the extension will start in September next.

When the extension is completed there will be accommodation available for 575-600 pupils. This is considered adequate to meet the needs of the area for the foreseeable future.

Does the Minister know that the staff projection would bring the number of pupils beyond the 600 mark and that staff projections hitherto have been extremely accurate? The parents' association are very worried about the long-term provision of accommodation at the school.

Mr. R. Burke

I have no present knowledge of what the staff consider to be the requisite number. If it is conveyed to me I will treat it with all seriousness and have it examined.
