Vol. 274 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Retirement Pension.

96.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a retirement pension has not been paid to a person (name supplied) in County Offaly.

There is no record of the receipt in my Department of a claim for retirement pension by the person holding the Irish insurance number given by the Deputy. The question is presumed to refer to a man whose name, address and British insurance number correspond with the particulars supplied by the Deputy. This man, also, did not make a claim for retirement pension to my Department. He did however make a claim to the British authorities. An inquiry was recently received in my Department from the British authorities in relation to that claim and as a result his entitlement to Irish retirement pension was examined pending his possible entitlement to pension under EEC regulations which allow his Irish and British insurances to be combined for the determination of pension entitlement. He has now been awarded provisionally a retirement pension of £8.30 a week by my Department on his Irish insurance only. A retirement pension book containing pay orders payable from 11th July, 1974, has been issued to Tullamore Post Office for collection by him and he has been informed of this.
