Vol. 275 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Superannuation Case.

51.

asked the Minister for Local Government when a decision will be made in the superannuation case of a person (name supplied) who is a water inspector with Meath County Council.

The matter depends on the making of provision whereby local authority employees generally can reckon pensionable service with Bord Fáilte Éireann having regard to the superannuation legislation. This involves approval of the board as an approved body for the purposes of the Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1956. My Department are in correspondence with the board at present about certain procedures to be followed in relation to the reckoning of service in a case such as that referred to. When these procedures are agreed I will be in a position to give the necessary approval for the reckoning by local authority employees of Bord Fáilte Éireann service.

Since this has been going on for some months past, would it not be reasonable to expect that it should be resolved by now?

I would not agree. The one of which the Deputy is speaking has been on my desk since April but I am aware of others that have been going on for several years but which were not brought to fruition. As I am bringing this one to a conclusion within a matter of a few months, Deputy Crinion must realise that it is being dealt with expeditiously.

May we expect it to be finalised before Christmas?

It will be finalised pretty quickly.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
