Vol. 275 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clare Farmers' Compensation.

50.

asked the Minister for Local Government why compensation due for a considerable time to certain farmers in the Clonlara area, County Clare, by Limerick Corporation has not been paid.

This is purely a local matter and one in which I have no function.

Is the Minister aware that the damage complained of by those farmers was done about nine years ago? Is he further aware that this has been held up for a long time? Would he agree also it is time some action was taken by Limerick Corporation about it? Would the Minister not use his influence with the corporation to speed up the matter and have it resolved.

I am sorry. It has been a long time—I think about nine years —hanging on. I am quite sure something should have been done about it before now. If Deputy Daly feels there is no other way of dealing with it, I can ask the local authority concerned; but really it is not my function and I think perhaps through the local authority representatives would be the better way of dealing with it.

I think the Minister should have a word with the corporation in an endeavour to get them to sort this thing out once and for all.

If Deputy Daly feels that is the only way to do it, I will have a question asked. I cannot guarantee results, but I shall have the question asked.
