Vol. 275 No. 8

Ceisteanna——Questions. Oral Answers. - Oil and Fuel Supplies.

145.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will give an assurance that all oil and fuel required by fishermen, glasshouse owners and agricultural contractors and those engaged in the poultry industry will be available to them.

Present indications are that there is a small surplus on world oil markets at present. There should be no difficulty for oil users generally in procuring supplies. However, as an adequate flow of oil depends mainly on the continuation of stable conditions in the producing areas, I am not in a position to give any guarantees as to future supplies. Should supplies again become so scarce as to warrant control, allocations would be made to consumers as was done last winter giving preference to essential users such as agriculture, horticulture, fishing and industry.

Does the Minister anticipate any price increase coming in the immediate future?

That is a separate question.
