Vol. 275 No. 8

Ceisteanna——Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Redundancies.

164.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the position in regard to a joinery firm (name supplied) in Tullamore, County Offaly; and the reasons why major redundancies have taken place.

The company have indicated that the cut back in production and the reduction of the work force in Tullamore is due to a downturn in the demand for the company's products.

Does the Minister accept that the downturn in demand for the products of this firm arises from the serious fall off in the building industry which his colleague, the Minister for Local Government, denies exists?

The Deputy may be aware that this company was taken over in 1971. Some of the difficulties may relate to the special problems of individual companies rather than to the difficulties of the industry as a whole.
