Vol. 275 No. 8

Ceisteanna——Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford Cable Television Systems.

97.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if an application has been made or is expected to be made to install cablevision in Tramore, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

98.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if it can be expected that cablevision will be available in Dunmore East, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

99.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if it can be expected that cablevision will be installed in Dungarvan, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

100.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if it is feasible to install cablevision at the following places in County Waterford: (a) Kilmacthomas (b) Portlaw (c) Tallow (d) Lismore (e) Cappoquin and (f) Ardmore; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 97 to 100, inclusive, together.

No applications have been received for licences to provide cable television systems in any of the nine areas mentioned by the Deputy.

I am advised that there is doubt whether signals of sufficient strength and reliability are available off air in the areas in question to provide satisfactory multi-channel cable television systems. However if any interested able operator or group submits to my Department evidence from tests taken over a reasonable period that usable signals which would provide acceptable reception are available off air, the question of holding competitions for licences to provide multi-channel cable systems will be considered.
