Vol. 276 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Road Grant.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will increase substantially the road grant payable to Mayo County Council for 1975.

In the determination of the Road Fund allocations for 1975 all the relevant considerations will be fully taken into account.

Is the Minister aware that we have a special problem in Mayo where there are 1,600 miles of untarred roads? We have some of the worst roads in Ireland and in view of that would he take into consideration——

The Deputy can be assured that we are aware of the situation, that Mayo has special problems. They have not got the same volume of traffic as some of the other towns and they get the largest proportion of the Road Fund. These things are taken into consideration when the grants are being allocated.

Did I hear the Minister say that Mayo gets the largest proportion of Road Fund grants?

Surely the Minister is aware of our peculiar situation in Cork?

The question refers to Mayo.

The Deputy is correct —Mayo has not got the largest proportion.

I put the Minister on the right road.
