Vol. 277 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Castlebar Hospital Extension.

63.

asked the Minister for Health when he proposes to have work commenced on the proposed extension to Castlebar Hospital, County Mayo.

This must be considered in conjunction with the general hospital development programme. I made a statement on this in introducing the Estimate for my Department on 28th November, 1974, (Official Report— Volume 276—Columns 454-457).

Is the Minister aware that Comhairle na nOspidéal selected Castlebar Hospital as a hospital where nurses could be trained? Do I take it from his reply that there is nothing definite about having these proposals fully carried out?

It does appear, as all the final decisions have been made, that Castlebar will become a general hospital and will be developed as such in the Western Health Board area.

Can the Minister give any indication as to when we can expect this development?

I am afraid I could not tell the Deputy now when this development will commence.
