As I indicated in reply to a similar question by the Deputy on the 7th February, 1974, local authorities have the responsibility under planning legislation to consider and provide for the recreational needs of their areas. I understand that An Foras Forbartha hope to publish soon a national recreation study which will be of assistance in this regard. I might add that the new Planning Bill contains provisions for strengthening the powers available for the protection of areas of special recreational value.
