Vol. 277 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wild Geese.

22.

asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to reports that Greenland white-fronted geese are threatened with extinction mainly as a result of some drainage schemes; and if he will take steps to preserve this species.

Mr. Kenny

My attention has been drawn to an "Irish Bird Report" (1973) by the Irish Wildbird Conservancy. It does not seem that current drainage operations being carried out by the Commissioners of Public Works affect locations of significance to the species mentioned. Before drainage proposals are finalised it is the practice to consult with the Forest and Wildlife Service of the Department of Lands and this practice will be maintained.
