asked the Minister for Finance why work on the boring survey at Skerries Harbour, County Dublin, has not yet started.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Skerries Harbour Survey.
Mr. Kenny
Bad weather has impeded the completion of a prior assignment on the western coast but it is hoped that the boring survey team can start work on the survey at Skerries in a month or so.
While weather conditions can prevent this survey starting, surely, in view of the urgency of the extension, a second team or more contractors could be brought in. I am sure there is enough work to employ them there.
Mr. Kenny
As far as I know, there is only one appliance in the possession of the Board of Works. There may possibly be two. I visited this site where the rig is working and because of the velocity of the winds they just could not go on working. Before the rig could be transferred from one area to another, it has to be dismantled, loaded on a special type of conveyance and brought to its destination. I do not know how much that would cost, but when a job is started in one area it has got to be finished and then the rig is taken on to the next job.
Can the Parliamentary Secretary say when he expects this survey to start?
Mr. Kenny
My information is it will start within the next month or so and between now and next month I shall be visiting the area again and I will expedite the matter.
