Vol. 277 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare Bridge.

25.

andMr. Crinion asked the Minister for Finance why the stream and road bridge (details supplied) scheduled for improvement by the Office of Public Works at Parsonstown, Carbury, County Kildare, was not dealt with when work was carried out in that area.

Mr. Kenny

Works have been suspended at this location due to a revision of plan in the interests of better drainage. They will be resumed in due course.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary not agree that drainage of the river further up could not but lead to better drainage? Would he not agree, seeing the plan is now being reviewed, that there is a danger this work may not be undertaken?

Mr. Kenny

There has been no correspondence whatsoever regarding this work with the Office of Public Works. It seems the landowner, to whom the position was explained by our engineer on the ground, has accepted the engineer's advice that whatever revised plan is implemented will lead to better drainage. There is no question of any drainage scheme being cancelled. Is that what the Deputy is afraid of?

My information is that this work was scheduled to deal with a stream and road bridge and the Office of Public Works stopped short of the scheduled clearance. I was approached by the landowner concerned and I approached the local land project office and I was told that the matter rested with the Office of Public Works. I tabled this question in an effort to see if the work will be done and the Parliamentary Secretary's answer has not convinced me that it will.

Mr. Kenny

The engineer on the ground went to the landowner and discussed the matter and the landowner accepted the engineer's advice. That is the only information I have and, if the Deputy wishes to pursue the matter, he can give me the man's name and the location and I will look into it.

I will gladly do that.
