Vol. 277 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cahirciveen Pier Extension.

27.

asked the Minister for Finance when work will start on the Cahirciveen pier extension, County Kerry, for which money was first granted over four years ago; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Mr. Kenny

It is proposed to carry out the scheme of improvements at Cahirciveen by contract and the necessary documentation is in preparation. At this stage it is not possible to state when the actual works stage can be reached.

This matter has been going on for quite some time and it is amazing that the documents are not yet ready. Would the Parliamentary Secretary take it up as a particular matter and get it under way once and for all?

Mr. Kenny

There are various factors involved in the finalisation of the documentation. The Department of Finance are involved and so are Kerry County Council. I cannot say specifically where the actual delay is, but it is not in my office.

As far as we are aware, it is supposed to be in the Office of Public Works. Kerry County Council have increased their allocation three times already. Costs are rising all the time——

I want to assist the Deputy in eliciting information but he must assist the Chair by asking relevant questions.

I am trying to get the Parliamentary Secretary to get this sorted out and under way.

Mr. Kenny

I will do my very best to expedite the matter.
