Vol. 277 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Corporation Abattoir.

34.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will now grant an export licence to the Limerick Corporation abattoir in view of the fact that farmers who wish to forward stock to existing factories face long delays in having cattle accepted.

Persons intending to engage in the export trade in beef and beef products must provide their own premises of the standard required for such trade. I am satisfied that the policy of not authorising individuals to carry on export trade from municipal abattoirs which are designed for the home trade is the correct one. I may add that the Limerick Corporation were specifically informed when construction of their municipal abattoir was being undertaken that the premises could not be registered for the export trade.
