Vol. 278 No. 5

Written Answers. - Agricultural Workers.

118.

asked the Taoiseach the number of permanent agricultural workers in each county, grouped in agricultural wages areas; the increase in the farm wage bill in each county for 1975 arising from a threshold pay increase of £2.80 from 1st March, 1975; and if he will give similar information in respect of temporary agricultural workers.

Estimates of the numbers of permanent and temporary male employees, 14 years of age and over, engaged in agriculture in each county, grouped in agricultural wage areas, are set out in the table below. These estimates, which relate to 1st June, 1973, the latest date for which data by county are available, are based on sample returns covering approximately 50 per cent of the area of the State. The corresponding figures for the State of the total numbers of permanent and temporary male employees at 1st June, 1974, are provisionally estimated at 19,800 and 14,100 respectively.

The weekly amounts involved in a payment of an additional £2.80 to each person, based on the 1973 numbers are also shown in the table.

Following is the table.
