Vol. 279 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Vietnam Orphans.

79.

asked the Minister for Justice whether the Government are considering accepting orphans from South Vietnam.

When replying to Supplementary Questions on 10th April the Minister for Foreign Affairs indicated that the advice that had been received by the Government was that what was needed in Vietnam was aid. That remains the position. In any case, as the Deputy will appreciate, when a child is taken to a distant country to be reared apart from its parents very serious problems can arise. It is significant, in this regard, that great concern has been expressed by informed persons about the Vietnamese children who have recently been taken to various countries.
