Vol. 279 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pension Book Issues.

96.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if, in view of the unsatisfactory operation, in many cases, of the arrangement which now incorporates the adult dependant under 67 allowance in respect of the non-contributory old age pension and blind pension books, he will revert to the former system of issuing a separate pension book to each category.

Where a non-contributory old age or blind pensioner is eligible for an increase of pension in respect of an adult dependant such an increase, which is an integral part of the pension, must be paid to the pensioner. Apart from other objections to such a course, I have no power to issue a separate pension book to adult dependants on a general basis and, contrary to what the Deputy implies, that has never been the practice in my Department.
