Vol. 279 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hypothermia Cases.

95.

asked the Minister for Health the number of fatal cases of accidental hypothermia which occurred in the State in each year from 1970 to 1974 inclusive; and the proposals he has to deal with this problem.

The number of fatal cases of accidental hypothermia was as follows: 1972, 4; 1973, 1; 1974, 3. Figures for 1970 and 1971 have not been compiled but should the Deputy think it essential, the death records for these years can be specially examined to extract the figures.

It is my policy to develop community welfare services which, in conjunction with the health services, deal with cases that come to light but public awareness of the danger of this condition for old people is essential to ensure that full use is made of the services.
