Vol. 280 No. 2

Simultaneous Translation Service.

In connection with the translation service, is it necessary for the Deputy who does not understand the native tongue to place the headphones on his head? During the course of a recent Irish question, the English translation was broadcast audibly, without requiring a Deputy to place the headphones on his head. Is there a new system in operation?

There has been no change.

There seems to have been a change today. We heard the English translation of Irish questions quite audibly without the assistance of headphones.

The Chair was not conscious of that.

The Chair must be hard of hearing.

We are entitled to know what is happening.
