Vol. 282 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Loans.

1.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received representations from the General Council of County Councils with regard to increasing the income limit for and the maximum amount of local authority loans; and the action he proposes to take in the matter.

I recently received these representations. While I do not intend to increase the limits at this stage I am keeping the matter under continuing review.

Would the Minister agree that the private sector of the house building industry is in a critical condition with rapidly rising unemployment and rapidly rising costs not only in the industry itself but in the ancillary industries also, and does he not think it essential that he should make an immediate decision in relation to the level of the loans and the qualifying income limit?

I shall be making a detailed reply at Private Members' Time this evening, as the Deputy may know, as he has already spoken. I do not think I should anticipate that now.

What about tomorrow?

It might not be a bad idea to wait until tomorrow.

May I give notice that I shall require written replies to Questions Nos. 102, 104, 105 and 118?
