Vol. 282 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Housing.

2.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total subsidy per house payable by (a) the State and (b) the local authorities in respect of current local authority house building in the Dublin area.

The Exchequer meets the entire cost of subsidising all new local authority houses being provided for letting. It is estimated that the average weekly subsidy on each such new house is about £15.50 in the case of Dublin Corporation, £14.50 in the case of Dublin County Council, and £16 in the case of Dún Laoghaire Corporation.

3.

asked the Minister for Local Government the average cost per house of providing local authority houses in the Dublin area in (a) April, 1973, (b) April, 1974, and (c) April, 1975.

The estimated average building costs of houses for which tender proposals were approved by me during the financial years 1972-73, 1973-74 and during the 12 months' period to 31st March, 1975, were £3,963, £4,958 and £6,208 respectively.

Quite an increase.
