Vol. 286 No. 12

Written Answers. - Local Authority Dwellings.

148.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will indicate the various stages and the length of time involved from the time the erection of local authority dwellings is proposed and their actual completion.

Generally, the provision of local authority dwellings evolves through the following stages:

—Acquisition and survey of a site;

—Preparation of lay-out and house plans;

—Preparation of working drawings;

—Invitation, examination and acceptance of tenders;

—Development of the site, and construction of the dwellings.

As the size of a local authority housing development may range from a few rural cottages to a scheme of over 1,000 dwellings, and as the characteristics of a site, the contracting resources, the methods of construction and other factors vary so widely, it is not possible to state the period of time which would elapse from the inception to the completion of a housing scheme.
