Vol. 288 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Foreign Goods Purchases.

22.

andMr. Molloy asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the total value of foreign manufactured goods purchased in 1975 through Irish agents by his Department and any State-sponsored bodies under his control, excluding goods not manufactured in Ireland.

My Department's records are not maintained in such a way as to enable the particular information sought to be identified. Almost the entire supply of goods required by the Department is purchased by three central Government purchasing agencies.

Purchases by the State-sponsored bodies are matters of day to day administration. As I have already indicated in my reply on 29th January to a similar question by Deputy MacSharry, I am satisfied that these bodies are aware of the desirability of purchasing Irish made goods whenever possible.
