Vol. 289 No. 6

Written Answers. - Wexford Maternity Hospital.

58.

asked the Minister for Health if there is any foundation for statements made at a recent meeting of the County Wexford local health committee that the South Eastern Health Board has not sufficient funds to provide essential additional staff for the new maternity hospital at Wexford and that the hospital will not open, as promised, in the present year; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Discussions are proceeding with the health board about the opening of the ground floor of the maternity unit. These discussions are likely to be completed in the near future. The ground floor of the unit contains 30 beds, an admission unit, nurseries, a delievery suite and a minor theatre, which would represent a marked improvement on the present situation in Wexford County Hospital.
