Vol. 289 No. 6

Written Answers. - Single Woman's Allowance.

59.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware of the refusal of a single woman's allowance to a person (name supplied) in County Cork; and if he will state the income or means that disqualified her from this entitlement, the source of this income and how it was assessed.

A single woman's allowance is not payable to the person concerned as her weekly rate of means as assessed by a deciding officer and subsequently by an appeals officer exceeds the maximum rate of allowance which would be payable in her case. For the purposes of this allowance her means consist mainly of the value to her of the benefit or privilege of free board and lodging on her brother's holding, which comprises about 60 statute acres and has a total rateable valuation of £25.
