Vol. 290 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Postal Delivery Problems.

21.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of postal delivery problems exising in the Ballincollig area of County Cork; and if he will carry out an immediate reorganisation of the area with a view to improving the service.

Due to staffing difficulties at Ballincollig, delivery problems have been occurring in parts of the area. Urgent measures are being taken with a view to overcoming these problems.

In overcoming these problems will the Minister guarantee the position of existing staff?

I do not know exactly what the Deputy means by that. I am of course anxious that nothing untoward would happen to any of the staff of my Department. I do not know what he has in mind.

I am surprised the Minister is not aware that this has been a staffing problem over a long period. I believe it is now reasonably satisfactory, but inadequate because of the growth of the area. I would press for urgent reorganisation there.

Discussions are going on with the unions concerned.

When will we have information about those discussions?

As soon as possible.

What is meant by "as soon as possible"?

As soon as possible.

Order. Question No. 22.
