Vol. 290 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Rural Electrification.

24.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when he proposes to make arrangements for the completion of rural electrification schemes in Ballycroy and Bundorcha, County Mayo.

I would hope, subject to Government authority, to be in a position to introduce during the coming weeks a Bill designed to make additional financial assistance available to householders to whom capital contributions were quoted for connection to the electricity supply under the four-year scheme 1971-1975 and who found themselves unable to accept these terms.

I understand that the Ballycroy and Bundorcha areas could benefit substantially under the proposals. The actual development work would be undertaken by the ESB as soon as possible after the enactment of the legislation.

Can the Minister give a definite date when he is likely to introduce this Bill?

As soon as possible, within the next couple of weeks.

The Minister has been telling us for quite a long time that he is going to introduce this Bill. Could he not be more specific and say it will be introduced in a week, a month or when?

No, I could not. I said as soon as possible.

Question No. 25.

I take it then the Minister has no notion——

The Deputy cannot take it I have no notion, as he knows from the answer.
