Vol. 290 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Beggar's Bush (Dublin) Land.

20.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider disposing of some of the land attached to Beggar's Bush barracks, Dublin for housing purposes.

No further part of the Beggar's Bush barracks site can be made available for housing purposes.

The State has already made available for such purposes: (a) the three blocks of former married quarters at the north-eastern side of the barracks which provide accommodation for more than 40 families; (b) the recreation field on the southern side of the barracks on which 54 houses have been built; and (c) a site on the southeastern side of the barracks on which eight houses have been built.

In addition, four houses on Northumberland Road have been let in the past few years to the Dublin Corporation for conversion into flats.

Is it intended to build more office blocks in the barrack grounds?

The commissioners now hold that the available property is very valuable and they wish to hold on to it.

It is valuable. I would suggest to the Parliamentary Secretary that the people out there are getting tired of office blocks and a few houses there would be most appreciated.

I will convey the Deputy's remarks to the commissioners.
