Vol. 293 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wicklow Housing Scheme.

22.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give a progress report on repairs and remedial works at the Rockfield Park, Kilmacanogue, County Wicklow housing scheme.

I understand from the National Building Agency that a substantial number of the defects in this "low-cost" housing scheme have been rectified by the contractor; that complaints are still arising, particularly as regards water penetration, including leaks through the jointing of the concrete slabs of which the roofs have been constructed; and that as a consequence of these recent complaints the agency has now decided to have the roofs asphalted by a specialist contractor. I am advised that this should obviate any further leaking of the roofs.

The Minister's reply dealt with the problem of leaking roofs. What about the window sills area? Did the agency give any definite word from the contractor about what can be done in that regard?

The whole matter was considered and a lot of repairs have been carried out. The main trouble had been the roofs. That is why I particularly refer to them, but there are still some repairs to be carried out. The roofs are now being repaired by the NBA who will seek payment by the contractor of the money involved.

Has the Minister any date from the NBA as to when these roofs will be finished successfully?

I asked that this should be dealt with urgently a month ago because the winter is coming on.

When I raised this question before the Minister offered to give me a list of the major repairs that would be done. Could I have that list now enumerating the repairs that have been carried out and the repairs that have yet to be done?

If I can get it I will do so otherwise I will talk to the Deputy about it.
