asked the Minister for Education if he will consider allowing a person in Dublin (name supplied) to register for a primary teaching qualification with St. Patrick's College, Drumcondra in view of (a) the fact that he is a qualified secondary teacher, (b) the Government's stated aim of increasing teacher numbers, and (c) the fact that he was only one week over the age when he first applied.

The position in regard to the person in question is that there is no record of any application from him in recent years for admission to a college of education under the competition for university graduates. If such an application were made in the case of a person who did not comply with the age limits set for the competition there would be no option but to refuse it.
