The balance of payments deficits in 1975 and 1976 were, respectively, £17.7 million and £150 million, equivalent to 0.5 per cent and 3.3 per cent of GNP. The 1976 figures are provisional. For 1977 it is estimated that the balance of payments deficit was some £160 million, equivalent to about 3 per cent of GNP.
