Vol. 303 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Medical Attendance at Road Accidents.

1.

asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to reports of difficulties experienced in finding doctors to attend at road accidents; if these reports are correct; and, if so, the steps he intends to take to improve the situation.

No such reports have been brought to my attention. For emergencies such as road accidents the health boards have arranged a 24-hour country-wide controlled ambulance service, staffed with trained personnel. As the most important requirement in the case of persons injured in road accidents is to have them transported quickly and safely to hospital it is preferable for persons at the scene of an accident to call an ambulance first rather than a doctor.
