Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Tom Enright

Ceist:

671 Mr. Enright asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the structural problems that have arisen in Portlaoise Garda station; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that this Garda station was built in 1832 and is of poor quality and totally unsatisfactory for the work of the Garda Síochána; the plans he has to provide a new Garda station in Portlaoise; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26180/01]

I am aware of the problems at Portlaoise Garda station and a report in the matter, which I requested, is awaited from the Office of Public Works. I assure the Deputy there will be no undue delay in acting on it. In addition, the Office of Public Works is currently seeking to acquire a green field site or alternatively the adjacent FCA site to facilitate the construction of a new or refurbished station at Portlaoise. It is not possible at this stage to give a timescale for the commencement of this project.
