Vol. 303 No. 7

Written Answers. - Bord na Móna Employees.

296.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy why an employee of Bord na Móna (name supplied) in County Offaly has had his application to be pensioned off refused, in view of the fact that he had a number of fingers amputated and had other hospital treatment; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

While I have no function in the day to day administration of the Bord na Móna superannuation schemes, I understand from the board that following an application from the employee in question a decision was made in January 1978 to retire him on grounds of ill-health and this decision was conveyed to him at the time. I understand that he has since been paid his retirement gratuity and pension payment has commenced.

297.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy if he will state in respect of each of the years from 1972 to 1978 the total number employed by Bord na Móna; the number that retired; and the number who got permanent employment in respect of each of the following bogs: Clonsast, Croghan, Derrinlough, Blackwater, Derrygreenagh, Cul na Móna and Lemonaghan.

I am informed that this information is not available in the form requested by the Deputy and that its extraction from the records of Bord na Móna would involve an inordinate expenditure of time and money.
