Vol. 303 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Wexford Garda Strength.

301.

asked the Minister for Justice the Garda strength in Wexford, Enniscorthy, New Ross and Gorey at (1) June 1977 and (2) January 1978; and if he has any proposals to allocate additional personnel to these towns.

Garda strength in the towns referred to in the question on 1 June 1977 was as follows: Wexford 46; Enniscorthy 20; New Ross 19; Gorey 22 (including personnel attached to the Traffic Corps).

The strength in these towns on 1 January 1978 remained unchanged. However, since then Garda strength in Enniscorthy has been increased by three gardaí and the strength in New Ross has been increased by one garda. In addition, the Garda authorities propose to allocate an extra garda to Gorey later this month and they will further consider the needs of all four towns, together with those of other areas, according as additional manpower becomes available for assignment.
