Vol. 303 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Costs of Dwellings and Land.

33.

asked the Minister for the Environment the cost of a new dwelling in Dublin City and County and the cost of an acre of building land in the same area in mid-January 1976, 1977 and 1978.

Information in the form requested by the Deputy is not available in my Department. Information is, however, available on a quarterly basis on the average gross price of new houses in the Dublin area for which loans were approved by the main leading agencies and on a yearly basis on the average price per acre of land acquired by agreement by Dublin local authorities. The available data shows average prices, as follows:

Average gross price of new houses

Quarter ended 31 March 1976

£11,607

Quarter ended 31 March 1977

£13,506

Average cost of land per acre in year

1976

£4,100

1977

£4,500

Information for 1978 is not yet available.

On the basis of the Minister's information does he propose to bring forward legislation on the Kenny Report regarding land prices?

That report has been in the Department since 1973. Since I went to the Department we have been having a look at it and I feel sure something will be before the Government——

Will it be before 1983?

It has been there since May 1973 and nothing was done about it.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
