Vol. 304 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Labour Legislation.

23.

asked the Minister for Labour the legislation, if any, he proposes to introduce before the summer recess; and the further plans for legislation that he is considering.

I expect to introduce the following items of legislation before the summer recess:

1. Safety in Industry Bill.

2. Amendment of the Truck Acts, 1831-1896.

3. Safety, Health and Welfare (Off-shore Installations) Bill.

I am also considering the introduction of two Bills later this year dealing, respectively, with the protection of employees' rights in business transfers and amendment of the Redundancy Payments Acts, 1967 to 1973.

What was the second item mentioned in the Minister's reply?

Amendment of the Truck Acts, 1831-1896.

Has that anything to do with the tachographs?

No, for the Deputy's information, it is the payment by cheque, or by cash.

Did I understand the Minister to say that, in the legislation contemplated, he does have material relating to improving the safety aspect of work?

That is right.

Could the Minister say—I do recall that study material in relation to a Bill in this area was released to the social partners some short time before the departure of the last Government——

During the election campaign.

I want to ask the Minister what progress has been made on these discussions of material issued to the social partners preparatory to the introduction of this legislation?

That is a separate question.

The Ceann Comhairle has ruled that that is a separate question.
