asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the action he is taking to remedy the shortage of equipment at Kilmead telephone exchange, County Kildare; and the number of applications on hands which cannot be dealt with until extra equipment is provided.

An extension to the exchange at Kilmead will be brought into service towards the end of the year. There are 15 waiting applicants for telephone service at Kilmead. Arrangements are being made to provide service for the two earliest of these. There are therefore 13 applications deferred pending provision of additional exchange terminations.
