Vol. 304 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Cork Water Schemes.

370.

Mr. Walsh

asked the Minister for the Environment (a) the number of group water schemes completed and (b) the amount of money contributed by his Department towards group water schemes in (1) the South Cork County Council area and (2) the West Cork County Council area, from 1 January 1970 to 1 January 1978; and (c) the number of group water schemes at present in progress in each of these areas.

The information requested by the Deputy is not available in my Department. Group water scheme statistics are compiled on a county by county basis and separate figures are not compiled for the different areas in County Cork. Furthermore, grant expenditure figures on a county basis are available only for the period since 31 March 1973. Between 1 April 1973 and 1 January 1978, my Department paid grants totalling £223,878 in respect of group schemes in County Cork. The overall position regarding group water supply schemes in the county at 31 December 1977, was as follows: 264 schemes serving 2,825 houses had been completed; 89 schemes to serve 2,205 houses were in progress, for which 1,939 grants had been paid; seven schemes were designed, to serve 82 houses; and 168 schemes were at earlier stages of development (e.g. location and testing of source, preparation of design).
