asked the Minister for Economic Planning and Development if he will specify those areas of the country which suffered relatively worse from unemployment during the recession, in relation to the under-taking given in paragraph 4.7 of the White Paper on National Development.
Written Answers. - White Paper on National Development.
The only indication of the trend in unemployment levels in the different areas of the country is provided by the live register of unemployment. The live register, as pointed out in the Government's recent White Paper on National Development 1977-80, does not however provide a completely adequate guide to the numbers out of work. This is because the register does not include most school leavers and other non-recipients of unemployment benefit/assistance who are seeking work. Nevertheless, the register does enable comparisons to be drawn on movements over time on unemployment levels for different areas of the country.
As the information provided is in the form of a tabular statement I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report. Following is the statement:—
