Vol. 304 No. 6

Written Answers. - Castletownbere IDA Site.

505.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy the developments that have taken place in relation to the IDA site at Ahabeg, Castletownbere, County Cork; the prospects of industry being located there; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The site at Ahabeg was acquired by the IDA in 1976 as a possible location for the construction of concrete platforms for use in connection with offshore oil and gas exploration. The previous owners had obtained planning permission for platform construction at the site.

Since then the IDA have carried out a programme of work aimed at collecting the technical information necessary in connection with the construction of concrete platforms at the site. The site will be offered for short-term leasing by the IDA to platform builders in the event of discoveries of offshore oil or gas leading to a demand for such facilities.
