Vol. 304 No. 6

Written Answers. - Irish-made Products.

514.

Mr. Leonard

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy the special measures that are taken by his Department to bring to the notice of architects and consulting engineers the merits of the very wide range of products now manufactured in Ireland.

As the Deputy will be aware, I recently launched an intensive three-year programme to promote Irish goods on the Irish market. All State agencies will be actively involved in promoting the objectives of this programme. Under the programme, the Irish Goods Council have been requested by me to have special regard to industrial purchasing. This is an area which at present involves a significant quantity of imported capital goods and associated components capable of being produced by Irish suppliers. Architects and consulting engineers are among those who are being provided with up-to-date information regarding suitable Irish suppliers, as part of the efforts to bring about a switch to the purchase of Irish-made goods.
