In 1976 the monthly ratio of the number of insured persons on the live register to the total insured work force, excluding the agriculture, private domestic and fishing sectors, first fell below the previous year's level in June 1976. With the exception of July and August 1976, when the rates equalled those of the same months in the preceding year, all the rates during the succeeding 12-month period were lower than in the corresponding month a year earlier.
