55 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline the grant aid which is available to promote the processing of snails in Ireland; and whether there is a special rate of grant aid available to promote the industry in the disadvantaged areas of the country.
While the production and processing of snails is not included in the alternative enterprises for which grant aid is available under the rural development programme any such project will be considered on its merits.
The level of grant aid available for these enterprises is 50 per cent in the less favoured areas and 40 per cent elsewhere.
