Vol. 305 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Cork Schools.

431.

asked the Minister for Education if he has any plans for the future of Tullylease National School, Charleville, County Cork.

Discussions took place in the period 1973-1975 concerning the amalgamation of Tullylease and Freemount National Schools and arrangements for this purpose were initiated accordingly. Representations were made in 1977 by a group of parents for the retention of the school and these representations have been renewed recently. I am having the matter further examined.

I should add, however, that there can be no question of the replacement of the existing Tullylease National School premises by a new building.

432.

asked the Minister for Education when he expects work to commence on the building of the new national school at Freemount, Charleville, County Cork.

A site for a new school at Freemount has been obtained and I understand from the Commissioners of Public Works that the preparation of working drawings for the building is well advanced.

It is not possible, at this stage, to say when the building work will commence.
