Vol. 305 No. 9

Written Answers. - Tenant Purchasers Repayment Periods.

373.

asked the Minister for the Environment why some Dublin Corporation tenant purchasers who are buying their houses under pre-1973 contracts have been informed that they will not be granted six years off their repayment periods.

Tenant purchasers who bought their houses under pre-1973 tenant purchase schemes at higher prices than they would have paid under the July 1973 scheme and who are still making repayments on their houses are entitled to a reduction of up to one-quarter of the original repayment period to compensate them for the higher price paid. This reduction may or may not amount to six years in any individual case depending on the length of the original repayment period. Where the price under the earlier scheme was lower than the July 1973 scheme price, no entitlement to a reduction in the repayment period would arise. Presumably the tenant purchasers referred to by the Deputy's question are in this category.
