Vol. 307 No. 11

Written Answers . - Noxious Weeds Act .

167.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will undertake a revision of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1936, in line with modern agricultural knowledge.

: Since the adoption of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1936, the list of weeds covered by the Act has been kept under constant review in my Department. The list has been extended on several occasions and in these circumstances I am satisfied that the Act is adequate from the point of view of modern developments in agricultural knowledge.

My Department have undertaken extensive publicity campaigns in recent years to encourage farmers to eradicate noxious weeds. Such a campaign is in progress at present. The literature distributed in connection with these campaigns contains advice on the chemical control of weeds by the use of modern and effective compounds.
