asked the Minister for Labour when the Government will accept Recommendation No. 147 of the 59th Session of the International Labour Conference, 1974; and if any further carcinogenic substances and agents are to be made subject to regulations by him; and, if so, when such regulations will be laid before the House.

The Government have accepted Recommendation No. 147 adopted at the 59th Session of the International Labour Conference in June 1974 relating to carcinogenic substances and agents. The International Labour Office was notified accordingly on 26th July 1978.

Chemical substances used in Irish industry are under constant review with a view to controlling carcinogenic and toxic effects. New regulations are made from time to time according as they are found to be necessary.

asked the Minister for Labour, with reference to recommendation No. 148 of the International Labour Conference 50th Session, 1974, the steps which have been taken, or are proposed, to provide for paid education needs for Irish workers.

The Government have accepted Recommendation No. 148, adopted at the 59th Session of the International Labour Conference in June 1974. This recommendation urges each member state to formulate and apply a policy designed to promote, by methods appropriate to national conditions and practice and by stages as necessary, the granting of paid educational leave for the purpose of (a) training at any level; (b) general, social and civic education;

(c) trade union education.

The International Labour Office was notified on 26 July 1978 of Ireland's acceptance of this recommendation.
