Vol. 309 No. 8

Written Answers. - Assaults on Children.

421.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will take steps to ensure that young school children are made aware by members of the Garda, of the dangers to them of assaults from adults, bearing in mind the recent increase in the incidence of such assaults, and the necessity to take every precaution to ensure that such children are made aware of such dangers.

It is primarily the responsibility of parents to warn their children of the danger of assaults from adults. I understand from the Garda authorities that at events such as exhibitions and shows at which the Garda Siochána are represented they distribute leaflets advising parents of their responsibility to warn their children of the potential dangers in talking with or accepting gifts from strangers. In addition, similar advice has been given from time to time on Garda Patrol television programmes.
